<p style="text-align: justify;">Philip Thompson is a specialist employment and equality lawyer. Philip is regularly instructed in Employment Tribunals throughout England and Wales.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Philip has a wide and diverse employment and equality practice and represents both Claimants and Respondents in cases ranging from complex discrimination claims to multi-party TUPE disputes.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Philip has a particular interest in and experience in the field of disability discrimination cases. Philip was appointed a member of the Disability Rights Commission litigation panel and remained such until the merger of the Equality commissions following the Equality Act 2006.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Philip is noted for his thorough preparation of cases and detailed knowledge of the law and practice in the Employment and Equality field. Philip is also known for his ability to apply and explain the law in complex factual and legal scenarios to both professional and lay clients. In particular Philip’s ability to relate to lay clients of all levels of knowledge and intellectual ability is prized by those instructing him.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Philip also is able to accept direct access.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Publications.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Philip was the author of the Chapters on (1) Disability Discrimination, (2) Discrimination on grounds of Religion or Belief and (3) Discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation in the loose leaf Sweet and Maxwell’s Employment Law Manual from 2003 until the publications cessation in 2007.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Philip has also been published in the ELA briefing</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Training</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Philip is a confident and experienced trainer who regularly speaks at Chambers’ CPD accredited training courses, often tackling difficult or emerging law for example speaking on the effects of London Borough of Lewisham v Malcolm [2008] UKHL 43, [2008] IRLR 700 shortly after the judgement was handed down and correctly predicting the outcome of the appeal to the Court of Appeal in Oakland v Wellswood following the EAT’s judgement in the case.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Philip was formerly a trainer for the Child Poverty Action Group in Employment Law and has previously been commissioned to write and provide in house bespoke training courses for a range of clients ranging from young lawyers groups to established solicitors’ firms to businesses and advice centres and advice charities including the Terence Higgins Trust.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Philip is therefore happy to discuss any requirements you may have for proposed courses.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Previous experience.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Philip also has years of experience in employment and equality law gained prior to his coming to the Bar as a second career.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Philip sat as a lay member in the London South Employment Tribunal from 1995 to 2001 and is able to bring the experience of having sat on cases to his help hone his advocacy skills.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Philip also has previous experience as the Employment Law supervisor in an advice centre and as a full time trade union officer, a background that underpins and informs Philip’s ability to understand and relate to the realities on the ground for both instructing solicitors and clients.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Philip is a member of the Industrial Law Society and Employment Lawyers Association.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Philip has previously held the position of chair of governors of a Primary School and chair of the management committee of a charitable nursery.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Socially Philip is often (as often as his busy practice permits at least), to be found body boarding on the beautiful Gower coast. At least when not watching the Ospreys (Philip is a season ticket holder)   or sampling the occasional pint of real ale in a local pub. He also loves theatre and the circus and able to juggle not only his work / social life balance, but also balls and rings and is working on clubs.</p>
